05/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – The spokesman for the European External Action Service explained on Thursday 5 November that the EU trusted Kosovo’s representatives to ensure the continuity of its institutions, as provided for by the country’s law, following the resignation of President Hashim Thaçi. The latter announced that he was leaving his post to undertake his defence, following the confirmation of his indictment by the court in The Hague concerning crimes committed during the war against Serbia (see EUROPE 12515/17). The EEAS Spokesperson welcomed Mr Thaçi’s agreement to cooperate with Kosovo’s Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office. “Full cooperation with these institutions is essential as an important demonstration of Kosovo’s commitment to the rule of law, which in turn is a core element for Kosovo’s progress on its European path”, noted the spokesman.
