05/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 5 November, PAN Europe and 70 NGOs called on the Commission “to put a stop to the EU’s double standards”on hazardous pesticides, in a letter to Vice-President Frans Timmermans and Commissioners Stella Kyriakides, Janusz Wojciechowski and Virginijus Sinkevičius. The letter condemns the EU for giving the green light to the export to non-Member States of pesticides considered too dangerous for use in Europe and the subsequent import of food produced using these same pesticides from these same non-Member States. “This is simply immoral and yet the Commission approved it”, commented PAN Europe in a press release. In 2018, member countries approved the export of 81,615 tonnes of pesticides containing 41 substances that have been banned for use in the EU, the NGO notes.
