09/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – Member States’ Ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) gave their green light on Friday 9 October to the appointment of Mairead McGuinness as European Commissioner for Financial Services for the remainder of the term of office, which runs until 31 October 2024. For its part, the European Parliament approved her nomination earlier this week (see EUROPE 12576/8). No EU Council decision is required for Valdis Dombrovskis, as he is simply being allocated an additional portfolio: that of External Trade (see EUROPE 12576/7). As a reminder, these changes in the Commission are the result of the resignation of Phil Hogan at the end of August from his post as Commissioner for Trade (see EUROPE 12545/10). The decision appointing Mrs McGuinness is expected to be formally adopted at a meeting of the EU Council on Monday. See the decision: https://bit.ly/34DCrVc (MF)
