China reinforces and clarifies its objectives, announcement welcomed by Frans Timmermans

Chinese President Xi Jinping surprised the world by announcing at the United Nations General Assembly, on Tuesday 22 September, that China will strive to reach carbon neutrality by 2060 and that it will peak emissions “by 2030” rather than “around 2030”.

This announcement had been hoped for by Europeans ahead of the EU/China Leaders' Summit which took place 14 September by videoconference and will be discussed in the framework of the EU/China Permanent High-Level Political Dialogue...
