18/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – Several European trade unions as well as about 20 professional organisations in the travel and tourism sector called on the European Commission on Friday 18 September to replace the various quarantine measures imposed on travellers in the Member States with a harmonised testing protocol. The current situation “directly threatens the livelihoods of more than 27 million Europeans who depend on the jobs created by airlines, airports, railways etc.”, as well as cafes, restaurants and travel agencies, they wrote to President Ursula von der Leyen. Showing their support for the European institution's recent proposal on travel restrictions (see EUROPE 12553/1), the signatories assure that if it is not fully implemented quickly, the sector's chances of recovery will “come to nothing”.
