17/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 17 September, SMEunited, the European employers' association for SMEs, welcomed the vision of the President of the European Commission. However, for SMEs, social, environmental and fiscal dumping must be tackled as soon as possible. The association wants to start negotiations with the trade unions on the minimum wage (see EUROPE 12561/2). Although it is not very enthusiastic about a directive on the issue (see EUROPE 12555/28), it is calling for more EU support for social dialogue. It expects financial aid to meet the objectives of the Green Pact and insists on action to strengthen workers' skills, particularly in view of the wave of renovations. SMEs welcome the announcements of support for digital infrastructure in rural areas, but are disappointed that the European Council rejected the Solvency Support Instrument (see EUROPE 12532/2). (PH)
