17/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – Nearly half of the future doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have already been purchased by a limited number of rich countries who account for barely a tenth of the population, according to a report released by Oxfam on Wednesday 16 September. According to analysis conducted by the non-governmental organisation on candidate vaccines clinically tested in Phase 3, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, Hong Kong, Switzerland and Israel have bought half of the 5.3 billion doses contracted in advance. While the EU has committed itself to making donations to the poorest countries, the United States has not. Donald Trump has already indicated that he will offer the vaccine to all Americans, not just the vulnerable and older people. “Vital access to vaccines should not depend on where you live or how much money you have”, said Oxfam's Robert Silverman.
