European Parliament calls for binding targets to strengthen EU's fight against global deforestation

On Tuesday 15 September, the European Parliament called for increased EU support for the protection, restoration and sustainable management of the world's forests, as well as recognition of the value of forest ecosystem services.

It welcomed the European Commission’s communication of July 2019 advocating a more robust contribution by the EU to combating global deforestation (see EUROPE B12302A1).
