02/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Tuesday 1 September that Romania has amended its Operational Programme for the implementation of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) to help the country’s fish farmers in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. Romania has allocated €5 million in public aid to compensate aquaculture companies for financial losses caused by the pandemic. In order to ensure sufficient funds, Romania reallocated €1.8 million from other areas of the operational programme. More than 160 aquaculture farms are expected to benefit from this income support (€15,000). Bulgaria has also amended its Operational Programme to reallocate €6.6 million of public aid (see EUROPE 12538/8). (LC)
