29/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said in Berlin on Tuesday 28 July that Switzerland could take part in the discussions over the reform of European asylum and migration policy, a reform that will, in theory, be presented in mid-September as part of the Pact on Asylum and Migration. Switzerland is a country linked by Schengen and Dublin, but it is not automatically entitled to be present during legislative discussions, instead being reliant on the initiative of the EU Council Presidencies. The minister said this in a meeting held with Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter. “Bern and Berlin are in agreement on all points”. The Federal Councillor also expressed confidence in Germany's efforts to reach an agreement at European level, saying she was “cautiously optimistic” according to a report by ATS. (SP)
