02/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – Members of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) adopted (36 votes in favour, 19 against and 21 abstentions), on Thursday 2 July, the amended draft opinion by MEP Alexandr Vondra (ECR, Czech Republic) on the establishment of the Just Transition Fund (JTF). As explained by EUROPE on Wednesday (see EUROPE 12518/6), the amended text considers that investments in natural gas should not be excluded from the scope of the JTF, although it does provide for conditions to be met. Members of the EPP, Renew Europe and ECR groups mainly voted in favour of the text, while the Greens/EFA opposed it. The majority of S&D and ID members abstained. The vote on the draft report by Manolis Kefalogiannis (EPP, Greece), Parliament’s rapporteur on the JTF dossier, will take place on 6 July. (DG)
