GUE-NGL group in European Parliament launches petition for universal access to future Covid-19 vaccine

23/06/2020 (Agence Europe)The GUE-NGL is mobilising for universal access to any potential Covid-19 vaccine. The far-left political group launched a petition on Tuesday 23 June under the title Right2Cure to make the future vaccine a “public good” by removing intellectual property barriers. One of the initiators of the petition, Marc Botenga (Belgium), advocated a set of patents under the aegis of the World Health Organization (WHO) as an alternative to the current system. “To defeat a pandemic like the one we are facing, we need future vaccines and treatments to be universally accessible. This is not only a matter of justice, but also a matter of public health”, he commented. The group hopes to collect 1 million signatures to be addressed to the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. See the petition: http://www.right2cure.eu (SPj)
