23/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 24 June, the European Commission will adopt an evaluation report on EU data protection rules (GDPR) as well as a communication evaluating the alignment of various EU acts with these rules. “This will be an opportunity to see how the General Data Protection Regulation works and to discuss the state of play of the protection of personal data in the digital age”, a spokesman for the institution commented on Tuesday. According to the Financial Times, whose article is based on a draft report, the application of the rules to emerging technologies (artificial intelligence, blockchain, Internet of Things) lacks clarity, compliance costs are difficult for SMEs to bear, and the transposition of the rules is quite varied across Member States. According to one lobby, the Commission could ask Member States to provide more resources to national data protection authorities. (SPj)
