15/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – Succeeding Georgia, Greece today took over the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe during a video conference bringing together representatives of the 47 member states of the Organisation. Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, Minister Delegate for European Affairs, presented the priorities of the Greek Presidency for the next six months. Given the current pandemic context, Greece has chosen to focus its chairmanship on the protection of public health and responses to the health crisis, while at the same time ensuring respect for human rights, democracy and the rule of law, and the protection of the younger generations. On 4 November, before handing over to the German Presidency, Athens will host the session bringing together the 47 foreign ministers and the ceremony celebrating the 70th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights.
