As provided for in the priority action plan adopted by the European Research Ministers (see EUROPE 12468/12), the European Commission launched, on Tuesday 21 April, an online platform dedicated to the exchange of data on COVID-19.
This platform, called the European COVID-19 Data Platform and set up with various partners, should enable “the rapid collection and sharing of available research data” on the virus, according to the Commission.
Researchers from across the EU will be able to store data sets such as “DNA sequences, protein structures, data from pre-clinical research and clinical trials, as well as epidemiological data, details the EU institution”.
“Within a few days, we expect thousands of DNA sequences to be uploaded, and tens of thousands of research articles to be available, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The platform will be "an important part in the building of Europe’s Open Science Cloud (EOSC)”, she said.
