16/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – The controversial draft laws on abortion and sex education (see EUROPE 12467/25), put to the vote by Polish MEPs on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 April, have been referred back to committee by the latter for a second reading. Several MEPs, mainly from the Greens/EFA, S&D, GUE/NGL and Renew Europe, had called on the Polish Parliament to reject these texts. “Our struggle continues and we will remain vigilant”, said the members of All of Us, the European Parliament’s pro-choice campaign. Terry Reintke (Greens/EFA, Germany) spoke again in a video posted on Twitter, stressing that “especially in times of crisis” access to sexual and reproductive health services “is absolutely essential”. For its part, the Party of European Socialists once again condemned “a barbaric attack on women’s rights”. (AC)
