The European Commission has launched a consultation with stakeholders (competent authorities, business and professional organisations, citizens, experts, the European Food Safety Authority, NGOs, etc.) from 23 March to 15 June 2020 on the EU Strategy for Protection and Welfare of Animals during the 2012–2015 period.
The actions of this strategy were completed in 2018. In 2019, the Commission started an evaluation of the EU Strategy for Protection and Welfare of Animals. This evaluation is meant to determine the extent to which the strategy’s objectives have been achieved and the extent to which they are relevant and consistent today. It will serve as a basis for potential future EU initiatives on animal welfare. For transparency reasons, organisations and businesses participating in public consultations are asked to register in the EU Transparency Register. In its future ‘Farm to Fork’ strategy, the Commission will assess existing Community legislation on animal welfare with a view to revising it (see EUROPE 12436/6).
