19/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 19 March, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the Alliance's ability “to conduct operations has not been undermined and our forces remain ready” whether with respect to multinational battlegroups in the east of the Alliance, NATO air policing, maritime deployments or missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo. Some exercises have, however, been cancelled or altered. “From the very beginning (of the crisis), NATO has implemented unprecedented measures to limit the spread of the virus and to ensure that essential work continues, maintaining deterrence for our nations”, he said. Stoltenberg added that the Allies will continue to consult, monitor the situation and take all necessary measures. (CG)
