13/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – SMEunited, which represents European SMEs, gave a cautious welcome on Thursday 12 March to the Action Plan 2.0 presented by the Commission (see EUROPE 12444/1). While SMEunited welcomes measures that will stimulate the re-use and repair market “for many craft enterprises and SMEs which are traditionally active in theses sectors” the organisation calls for specific impact assessments and SME support instruments to ensure that new Sustainable Product Policy measures are feasible. SMEunited President Alban Maggiar said the measures “are quite worrying” and said he feared “skyrocket costs and red tape for SME manufacturers and retailers”. He is also concerned about the extension of producer responsibility, which “goes too far” in the Single-Use Plastics Directive. (AN)
