11/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission, via its spokesman, Eric Mamer, said on Wednesday 11 March that the next round of negotiations with the United Kingdom, scheduled to take place in London from 18 to 20 March, was still ongoing at this stage and “will take place”, despite the spread of the coronavirus. It was the British minister Michael Gove who had indicated in the morning that this second round could be cancelled because of the coronavirus, which has in fact infected the British Health Minister herself, as she indicated on 10 March. The first cycle took place from 2 to 5 March. It consisted of presenting the respective negotiating mandates. Negotiations between the EU and London are due to be concluded in theory by the end of 2020, with the UK government indicating that it does not wish to extend the transition period. (SP)
