06/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – At next week’s plenary session of the European Parliament, the EPP Group will vote in favour of adopting the fourth list of projects of common interest proposed by the European Commission. In any case, that is what Manfred Weber (Germany)—chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament—affirmed on Twitter on Thursday, 6 February. “We will support the PCI list as these projects are crucial for the energy market in the EU and they will allow for a cleaner, more secure and affordable supply of energy for our citizens”, he replied to American actor Mark Ruffalo, who had called on MEPs the day before to reject the list, which is controversial due to the fossil fuel projects that it contains (see EUROPE 12417/7). According to information gathered by EUROPE, MEPs will hold a debate on Monday, 10 February, and the plenary vote will take place on Wednesday, 12 February. Despite strong opposition from environmental NGOs and predominantly left-wing MEPs, the list is expected to be adopted. (DG)
