06/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – Key legislation for the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement entered into force in the EU on 1 January this year. This is the Regulation setting new performance standards for the reduction of CO2 emissions for the European fleet of new cars and vans after 2021. Manufacturers will have to reduce emissions from their vehicle fleets by 15% by 2025 compared to 2021 for both cars and vans. Furthermore, by 2030, the reduction will have to be 37.5% for cars and 31% for vans. The Regulation also includes a mechanism providing incentives for marketing of low- or zero-emission vehicles. Proposed as part of the 3rd ‘clean mobility’ package, it was adopted in April 2019 (see EUROPE 12236/23, EUROPE 12223/3). (AN)
