EU provides financial support for two electricity interconnection projects

03/12/2019 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday, 3 December, the European Commission announced the signing of two grants for major electricity interconnection projects. The institution has thus decided to allocate €530 million and €10.29 million, respectively, for the construction of the Celtic Interconnector between Ireland and France and for studies on the development of the Harmony Link Interconnector between Lithuania and Poland. “With the signature of these two grants, we consolidate our energy union built to provide security of supply for all citizens”, new European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson stated with pleasure. The first project aims to improve the security of the electricity supply and support the development of renewable energy in Ireland and France. As for the second, it is part of the Baltic Synchronisation Project, which is expected to result in the full integration of the Baltic states’ grids with the rest of Europe. (DG)
