03/12/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission approved on Tuesday 3 December the designation of Varta AG as a suitable purchaser of assets divested by Energizer in order to acquire Spectrum Brands’ ‘batteries and portable lighting’ business. It also authorised Varta AG to acquire the transferred assets, subject to certain conditions: Varta AG has offered to supply hearing aid batteries worldwide to any company active on the wholesale market for hearing aid batteries under its own brand name, under certain conditions and for a specified period of time. Downstream competitors should therefore not face disruptions, higher prices or reduced quality in the supply of the batteries they offer to customers while they seek alternative supply solutions, the Commission notes.
