MEPs of the European Parliament's Committee on Budgetary Control endorsed, on Tuesday 12 November, the EU Council's proposals to appoint several members of the EU Court of Auditors (two new members and three mandates renewed).
The new French member of the Court of Auditors, François-Roger Cazala, was backed by 20 votes in favour, 3 against and 1 abstention. He has been a long-standing member of the French Court of Auditors.
Ms Joëlle Elvinger, nominated by Luxembourg, was backed by 19 votes in favour and 5 against. She is currently a member of Luxembourg’s Chamber of deputies and a lawyer.
Renewal of mandates. The European Parliament Budgetary Control Committee supported (16 votes in favour, 5 against and 3 abstentions) the renewal of the mandate of the German member, Klaus-Heiner Lehne, who is the current President of the Court. Mr Lehne has served in Court since 2014.
Alex Brenninkmeijer, nominated by the Netherlands, received the green light from MEPs (23 votes in favour, 1 against), as well as Greek Nikolaos Milionis (23 votes in favour, 1 against). Both Mr Brenninkmeijer and Mr Milionis have been members of the Court of Auditors since 2014.
The Parliament will decide on these appointments on 26 November (provisional timetable) in Strasbourg. The members of the Court of Auditors are appointed by the EU Council, after consulting the Parliament, and after being designated by their respective Member States.
