13/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – The spokeswoman of the European External Action Service, Maja Kocijančič, denounced on Wednesday 13 November the renewed violence in Lebanon. The country has been affected by a protest movement since 17 October and the situation deteriorated on 12 November with the overnight resumption of road closures and violence between demonstrators and the army, following an intervention by the President, Michel Aoun, who did not meet demonstrators’ expectations, according to the latter. “The violence is completely unacceptable”, Kocijančič said, appealing for calm. “It is imperative that a new government be formed without delay”, she added, calling for the adoption of the necessary reforms and for civil society to be engaged in an inclusive dialogue.
