05/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – The recycling rate for beverage carton packaging in the EU reached 49% in 2018 (+1% compared to 2017), announced the ACE (The Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment) on Tuesday 5 November, stressing that there is room for improvement. As proof: this rate is as high as 70% in some Member States. The 49% rate “is not enough if the EU wants to reach a low-carbon circular economy”, according to ACE, which is calling for the ambitious implementation of the EU’s revised waste legislation. The beverage carton packaging industry is committed to supporting recycling, including non-fibrous components. On 5 November, ACE launched the “We’re not just square, we’re circular” campaign to raise awareness of the recycling of this low-carbon material across Europe. (AN)
