Provisional anti-dumping duties will be applied on imports of Chinese steel road wheels

The European Commission announced on Thursday 10 October its decision to impose anti-dumping duties on steel road wheels from China and to open two further investigations into products originating in China, South Korea and Indonesia.

Provisional duties of 50.3% to 66.4% will be imposed on imports of Chinese steel road wheels over the next 6 months, aimed at bringing relief to a European market of around €800 million (2018) that directly employs 3,600 people, according to Commission figures. The final results of the anti-dumping investigation are expected to be published in April 2020.

On the same day, the Commission opened an investigation into imports of hot-rolled stainless steel sheets and coils from China and Indonesia. This investigation complements another anti-dumping investigation on the same products from Indonesia and Taiwan initiated in August 2019. The €2.4 billion (2018) European market provides direct employment for some 2,300 people, the Commission stressed in a press release.

It also recalled the more than 50 anti-dumping and anti-subsidy trade defence measures on iron and steel products established to defend European steel producers.

On 10 October, the Commission also initiated an anti-dumping proceeding concerning imports of some Korean heavy thermal paper. (Original version in French by Hermine Donceel)
