EU increases humanitarian aid for cyclone victims by 10 million euros

10/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The EU will mobilise an additional 10 million euros in humanitarian aid for the victims of the very powerful tropical cyclones Idai and Kenneth, which hit Mozambique this year, the European Commission announced on Thursday 10 October. These funds will finance: - emergency food aid and nutritional support; - health care, by contributing to the functioning of referral and emergency services in health centres serving affected areas; - disaster preparedness: store emergency kits at strategic locations throughout the country so that they are immediately available in the event of a new natural disaster. "We are committed to support Mozambique for as long as it takes", says Christos Stylianides, Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management. 11 million had previously been provided. (AN)
