According to Mrs Mogherini, 3rd macrofinancial assistance package should be disbursed at beginning of 2020

The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, announced on Monday 7 October, during a visit to Amman, that the third macrofinancial assistance programme for Jordan, worth 500 million euros, could be disbursed in a few months.

Stressing that the proposal was subject to approval by the European Parliament and the EU Council, Mrs Mogherini said she was "convinced that this decision could be taken within the next 2 months, so that this third package of 500 million euros could be disbursed early next year".

The European Commission adopted this aid on 9 September last (see EUROPE 12323/12), support which will be disbursed subject to Jordan's implementation of reforms.

At a press conference with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Mrs Mogherini recalled that the EU supports the reforms undertaken by the government, whether in the economic sector, the public sector or political reforms. "We are therefore ready to support the government's reform agenda in any way we can", she explained.

According to the High Representative, over the past 8 years, the EU has supported Jordan with 2.2 billion euros. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
