03/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 3 September, a spokesperson for the European External Action Service condemned the attack by the Taliban on a residential complex housing international organisations the previous evening, which killed at least 16 people and injured more than a hundred more. Yet, at the same time, the US envoy for Afghanistan was setting out the details of the terms of the agreement negotiated in Doha with the Taliban. “This attack is intended to undermine current efforts to bring about lasting peace in Afghanistan”, said the spokesperson, adding that the violence and the killing of civilians must end once and for all. The spokesperson reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting the Afghan people and the Afghan authorities in the fight against terrorism and to supporting ongoing international efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan.
