31/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – The EU will observe the general elections in Mozambique on 15 October. MEP Ignacio Sánchez Amor (S&D, Spain) will lead the EU election observation mission (EU EOM). On 31 July, he was appointed Chief Observer by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini. These elections "come at an important moment in the country's history, when real progress towards a comprehensive peace agreement opens the way to permanent reconciliation and accelerating reforms", the High Representative said in a statement. The EU EOM core team, composed of 9 analysts, will be in Maputo on 31 August and will remain there until the end of the electoral process. 32 long-term observers will be deployed throughout the country and 76 short-term observers will join them just before the election.
