Green light for Romanian aid for multimodal platform in port of Galati

30/07/2019 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 30 July, the European Commission approved a Romanian measure to support a multimodal platform in the port of Galati. Totalling €27.4 million, the investment aid will provide support for a new multimodal platform in Romania's largest sea-river port. The total investment cost is estimated at €89.9 million; it is co-financed by the Romanian State, regional funds, the Connecting Europe Facility, and private investors. These investments will include the construction of infrastructure for an intermodal terminal, which will help to promote the shift from road transport to railway and inland waterways/maritime transport on the Rhine-Danube Trans-European Transport corridor. The Commission considered that the aid was necessary, proportionate and that the distortion of competition will be limited. It also considers that the increase in the port's capacity will be correlated with the increase in demand. It therefore concluded that the aid was compatible with EU state aid rules. (LT)
