On Tuesday, 9 July, the European Commission imposed a €6.2 million fine on Sanrio for restricting cross-border sales of merchandising products featuring Hello Kitty characters and other characters it owns.
The Japanese company Sanrio Company, Ltd. designs, licenses, produces and sells products featuring Hello Kitty and other characters. It also holds intellectual property rights to additional characters through its subsidiary Mister Men Limited.
