21/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – The newly elected MEP and former Luxembourg Minister for Labour and Employment, Nicolas Schmit, confirmed on Luxembourg radio station 100.7 on Wednesday 19 June that he wants the Social Affairs portfolio in the next European Commission. Nicolas Schmit, a socialist from the Luxembourg Socialist Workers Party (POSL), should, according to a coalition agreement, be the next commissioner from Luxembourg. This is not his first attempt. In 2014, his candidacy was rejected following the appointment of Jean-Claude Juncker as head of the European Commission. In 2016, he had been approached for a time to take over at the European Court of Auditors. (PH)
