The European Parliament is setting out to define, by Monday 17 June, its strategic priorities for the next institutional cycle, which it will forward to the European Council meeting in Brussels on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 June (see EUROPE 12271/2).
EUROPE has compiled the list of representatives of the four pro-European political groups likely to form a stable majority - EPP, S&D, Renew Europe (formerly ALDE&R) and Greens/EFA - who will negotiate these priorities in five working parties created from Thursday 13 June.
Environmental issues (group 1):
- Environment and biodiversity, sustainable mobility, fight against climate change and zero waste, food, health.
- EPP: Siegfried Mureșan (Romania) and Peter Liese (Germany)
- S&D: Kathleen Van Brempt (Belgium) and Éric Andrieu (France), potentially joined by Miriam Dalli (Malta)
- Renew Europe: Pascal Canfin (France) and Chris Davies (United Kingdom)
- Greens/EFA: Yannick Jadot (France) and Bas Eickhout (Netherlands)
Socio-economic issues (group 2):
- Economy and social policy, employment, trade, competition and industrial policy, taxation, reform of the economic and monetary union.
- EPP: Esther de Lange (Netherlands) and José Manuel Fernandes (Portugal)
- S&D: Roberto Gualtieri (Italy) and Nicolas Schmit (Luxembourg)
- Renew Europe: Nils Torvalds (Finland) and Luis Garicano (Spain)
- Greens/EFA: Molly Scott Cato (United Kingdom) and Sven Giegold (Germany)
Innovation and digital transition (group 3):
- Innovation, digitisation, artificial intelligence, single market and consumer protection.
- EPP: Mairead McGuinness (Ireland) and Jan Olbrycht (Poland)
- S&D: Miapetra Kumpula-Natri (Finland) and Agnes Jongerius (Netherlands)
- Renew Europe: Dita Charanzova (Czech Republic) and Nicola Beer (Germany)
- Greens/EFA: Tilly Metz (Luxembourg) and Michèle Rivasi (France)
Rule of law and security policies (group 4):
- Rule of law and fundamental rights, security, counter-terrorism, borders and migration.
- EPP: Esteban González Pons (Spain) and Roberta Metsola (Malta)
- S&D: Claude Moraes (United Kingdom) and Tanja Fajon (Slovenia)
- Renew Europe: Malik Azmani (Netherlands) and Dragoș Tudorache (Romania)
- Greens/EFA: Terry Reintke (Germany) and Ernest Urtasun (Spain)
