04/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – Electric vehicles would save France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom between €500 million and €1.3 billion a year if these Member States increase their commitment to renewable energy, according to a new Transport & Environment study published on Monday 3 June. The study shows that charging electric cars at the right time would reduce peak demand and provide additional storage capacity in the event of an oversupply of renewable electricity. This means a reduction in the number of new power plants and new storage on the grid. In addition, the study suggests that reusing batteries would allow companies to make substantial savings compared to installing new batteries (-42%). As such, the authors deplore the fact that recycling capacity is still too low in Europe. To consult the study: https://bit.ly/2QFvwDi (PH)
