EU agricultural organisations and cooperatives (Copa-Cogeca) will launch their own campaign, #WeFarm4EU, on Monday 6 May, three weeks before the European elections, to highlight the sector's achievements and present its positions and proposals for the coming political cycle 2019-2024 in Europe.
Copa-Cogeca will present a manifesto defending in particular a stable budget for the post-2020 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), while the Commission is proposing a 5% cut in appropriations for this policy during the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2021-2027.
Fighting unfair commercial practices. The professional organisations also believe that the implementation of the new directive against unfair commercial practices will have to be closely monitored in order to ensure greater justice in the food supply chain.
Moreover, the Commission announced the entry into force, on 30 April, of the new rules which make it possible, in particular, to prohibit 16 unfair commercial practices imposed unilaterally by any trading partner (retailers, food processors, wholesalers, cooperatives, producer organisations, individual producers).
Member States will have to designate authorities responsible for the application of the new rules. The latter should have the power to impose fines and investigate complaints.
In addition, in their manifesto, EU farm organisations call for trade agreements with third countries to be “balanced”. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
