Trade unions welcome inter-institutional agreement on regulation on ‘coordination of social security systems’

20/03/2019 (Agence Europe)The Confederal Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), Liina Carr, welcomed on Wednesday 20 March the agreement reached between the European Parliament and the Council of the EU on the Regulation on the coordination of social security systems (see EUROPE 12217/5). "The deal agreed today improves and clarifies the rules for mobile and posted workers. There are some improvements for working people – the portability of unemployment and family benefits, giving extended opportunity to look for a job in another member state – as well as measures to support the fight against social security fraud in posting of workers", the trade unionist explains. Shortly before the agreement was concluded, the ETUC circulated a letter to ambassadors and parliamentarians calling for no agreement "under any circumstance", provoking numerous questions in the diplomatic corps (see EUROPE 12208/15) (PH)
