20/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 20 March, BusinessEurope, the organisation representing European employers, published its annual barometer on the European economy. The report, unveiled the day before the European Council meeting, which is expected to deal in part with the European economy and competitiveness, makes recommendations to the European Union institutions and Member States. Several areas are covered, including the business environment, innovation, the labour market, finance, taxation and even the implementation of structural reforms. In a press conference, Pierre Gattaz, the organisation's president, also insisted on its commitment to see competition law rules take into account the global economy, a few weeks after the Commission refused to give the green light to the proposed merger between Siemens and Alstom (see EUROPE 12188/1).
