05/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, welcomed Malaysia's deposit of its instrument of accession to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Tuesday 5 March. “Malaysia’s accession to the Rome Statute confirms its commitment to strengthen the rule of law, human rights, and accountability domestically and internationally” she said in a statement. According to Ms Mogherini, “This new accession shows the continuous support for the Court by States all over the world, and will serve as an encouragement to the remaining countries in the region to commit to ending impunity for the most serious crimes”. The EU will continue to promote universality and preserve the integrity of the Rome Statute, she warned. Malaysia is the 124th Member State of the ICC. (CG)
