31/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – The EU High Representative, Federica Mogherini, said on Thursday 31 January that the EU should invest more in the field of artificial intelligence. "Our discussion confirmed the need for Europe to engage and invest more and in a coordinated way in key technologies, including in the area of artificial intelligence (AI). This is an issue that is extremely important for the entire world and for Europe as well”, she explained at the end of the informal meeting of defence ministers. She announced that the AI will be on the agenda of one of the formal meetings of Defence Ministers in 2019. According to her, the EU is preparing concrete measures to cover both the application of the potential of artificial intelligence to the defence and security sector and concerns about the ethical and legal framework in which this intelligence applies.
