29/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 29 November, the European Commission launched its second call for applications under the DiscoverEU project, which allows 18-year-olds to travel around the continent free of charge (see EUROPE 12038). Interested parties will be able to submit their requests up until 11 December and will receive a reply in mid-January 2019. The trip, lasting a maximum of 30 days, must take place between 15 April and 31 October 2019, mainly by train, possibly by bus and, for people living on islands only, by plane or ferry. In total, the Commission intends to distribute 12,000 free tickets while maintaining a certain geographical balance. This is the 2nd call for applications organised by the European Commission. The first enabled approximately 15,000 young people to take a trip between 9 July and 30 September 2018 (according to Commission figures). (SPj)
