European Parliament/Council political agreement on horizontal safeguard measures in EU trade agreements

28/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – Representatives of the Parliament and the EU Council reached an interinstitutional political agreement on Wednesday 28 November on the proposal to include horizontal safeguard measures in the trade agreements that the European Union is negotiating with its partners (see EUROPE 12124). This will allow the EU to temporarily suspend tariff preferences in cases where a sector or industry suffers - or could suffer - serious damage as a result of increased imports...
