Average government deficit down to 1.0% of GDP and average government debt down to 86.8% of GDP in Eurozone in 2017

The average deficit and the average government debt in the Eurozone fell from 1.6% of GDP to 1.0% and from 89.1% to 86.8% respectively between 2016 and 2017, according to data published on Monday 22 October by the statistical office of the European Union (Eurostat), on the member states' second notification of 2018.

In the EU, the government deficit stood at 1.0% of GDP on average in 2017, compared to 1.7% in 2016, and average government debt was 81.6% last year, compared to 83.3% the year...
