15/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – The EU has identified gaps in the measures in place in Poland to limit the suffering of livestock transported to third countries over long distances. A report by the EU Food and Veterinary Office (FVO), published on 12 October, shows shortcomings in the system of official controls (vehicle route plans, health certification, etc.) and problems sometimes when Polish carriers are involved in sending livestock to Turkey. In 2016, Poland exported livestock to Lebanon and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Data show that between 2015 and 2017 there was no shipment of live cattle from Poland to Turkey. But Polish hauliers regularly participate in livestock shipments to Turkey from other EU Member States. (LC)
