11/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – European ministers of justice paid tribute on Thursday 11 October to the Bulgarian journalist Viktoria Marinova, who was murdered on 6 October (see EUROPE 12112). Bulgarian Minister Tsetska Tsacheva provided an update on the investigation. A European arrest warrant was issued on 9 October and the suspect was arrested by the German police, she explained, calling for his extradition to Bulgaria quickly. Viktoria Marinova worked for the Bulgarian television channel TVN, which had broadcast an investigation of investigative journalists into a fraud linked to the embezzlement of European funds. The first elements of the investigation show that this is a "spontaneous crime" whose objective was "of a sexual nature", the Bulgarian minister said. "To date, the investigation has not demonstrated a link between the crime and the victim's profession," she concluded. (MF)
