09/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 10 October, member states’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) will discuss how to follow up on the European Parliament’s request for what is known as ‘article 7’ proceedings against Hungary over the rule of law (see EUROPE 12094). This point will then be put on the agenda of the General Affairs Council in Luxembourg on Tuesday 16 October. At this stage, the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the EU has not yet defined the format of the talks on Tuesday, but they will be looking at the appropriate follow-up to be given to the European Parliament vote. The Council, upon request from the European Commission, is already holding hearings on the rule of law with Poland, the first EU country to have been put under this 'article 7' procedure (see EUROPE 12102). Poland will also be on the agenda of the General Affairs Council. (SP)
