Koen Lenaerts re-elected president of Court and Rosario Silva de Lapuerta elected vice-president

09/10/2018 (Agence Europe)Belgian Koen Lenaerts was re-elected by his peers on Tuesday 9 October to head the European Court of Justice (ECJ) for a second three-year term of office from 9 October 2018 to 6 October 2021. Professor of European Law at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (since 1983) and at the College of Europe in Bruges (1984-1989), he became a judge at the EU General Court, then at the Court in 2003 before being elected vice-president in October 2012 and president in October 2015.  The day before, the Court carried out a partial renewal of its members (see EUROPE 12070, 11971). On the same day, Rosario Silva de Lapuerta was elected vice-president of the Court until October 2021, succeeding Antonio Tizzano.  Professor of Community Law at the Diplomatic School of Madrid, she has been a judge at the Court since October 2003. (MB)
