25/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Justice, Vera Jourova, was in Cyprus last week to discuss the fight against money laundering on the island with the country's home affairs and justice ministers of Cyprus. “I don't want the EU to be the laundromat of dirty money”, she said on Tuesday 25 September, referring to her meetings. Cyprus has transposed the fourth anti-money laundering directive, but there are still gaps, she explained, calling upon the Cypriot authorities to prepare to transpose the fifth directive. During her stay in Cyprus, she also discussed 'golden visas'. “We had a good debate about the need to take all preventative steps not to allow bad people with bad intentions to enter the EU through such a scheme”, she said. Readers may recall that at the end of November, the Commission is to present a report on these practices. (MF)
